Here’s the thing that I really did not understand about this episode: why did Shining Armor and Cadance need separate bedrooms? Does Twilight not understand the concept of married couples sleeping together?
 
Or was it the censors being scared of the moral guardians in the audience?

Honestly, due to how often background ponies are generated and how often DHX goofs, that aparent plothole fixes itself.
 
The ponies shown in that flashback are all earth ponies, and Twilight’s canterlot friends are all unicorns.

To be fair, Discord being in that situation was meant to highlight his self destructive nature. He DID cause a thousand years of destruction that CREATED that villain.

Discord Mother’s mortal incarnation is Maud Pie (neither is aware of this). She isn’t evil. She’s just spirit of The End. She’s not good or evil. It turns out that Discord is basically the asshole of his family… And seeing his canon self be redeemed is unnerving him to a degree he’s not willing to admit to, and is beginning to make him re think things.
 
And Discord and Celestia’s relatives were ALWAYS intended to be mysterious and distant, but peer pressure forced them to come out in the open.

I purposely made things as bleak as possible with Dark World for the express purpose of giving my original depressing and hopeless epilogue to Discord Ponies and give it a HAPPY ENDING… even when the all mighty creator of the story (in universe so to speak) was working against him. And to STILL make it a Sunshine and Rainbows ending.

Funny thing is, the author himself actually hated how the whole Pantheon thing turned out (something about his editors telling him to make them less mysterious and give them clear roles and personalities and how he really wanted to keep them mysterious and vague and whatnot), but he’s more or less stuck with it now.

or did you mean the oc whoring? that was when they introduced the pantheon and discord’s “brothers” and evil mama entropy, who’s the most evil force in the entire universe, seriously man she’s like, all powerful, like a god.

yeah I liked the “pony pov” story, until the whole darth tiara thing. it should’ve just wrapped up there, and had that “discord is a wimp, compared to my totally awesome ocs” thing be a separate story.

Well, I disagree with you on that, but I can certainly understand why you feel that way (even he feels that the combined Dark World and Shining Armor arcs were way too long, though the not-exactly-behind-the-scenes drama between him and the main writer of the Shining Armor part that I’d rather not go into detail about probably didn’t help).

The first one certainly is. Then the author fell in the the “Homesick Act 6” hole of making an arc that was too long and animu that lost a lot of what made the story magical to begin with. And unlike Homesick, he hasn’t done much to reclaim the magic.
