I designed my own shark pony OC long ago, and heck I did it because I love the idea and I will continue to love it! Whats wrong if people get crative with the questrian species? I love things like deers, draconies and shark ponies, there is nothing wrong about them.
Of course it’s overdesigning. You just said that you wouldn’t notice if they were taken away. Therefore, it adds nothing to the design; ergo, the design would be simpler, more streamlined, and more elegant without those details.
…Beyond that, looking at the piercings again, they should be above the outline gray, not below it. And the cutie mark’s the same. Says nothing about design there, but it does suggest their execution could be improved.
The pony has a shark-like shape. I don’t think giving it small piercings and a small necklace distract from the overall design - hell, I didn’t even notice it had a necklace until now. I don’t think it’s overdesigning.
Eh, it doesn’t bother me, but if I was designing a shark/pony species, I’d probably favor more ‘shark’ attributes then the example here.
It’s still an okay design, if I had to say.
I’d tend to agree. That’s why I don’t filter the tag like I do “alicorn OC”. A lot of them–Wheelie Booper, or whatever her name is–are just bizarre and don’t seem to be made to be taken seriously.
But things like this upset me, because it’s like someone went and bedazzled a gilded lily and stuck it in a rhinestone-covered vase.
I mean, you took a pony’s cute shape. Added colored hooves for no reason. Gave it a bland color scheme and inexpressive cutie mark. Gave it bat wings and eyes. A dolphin tail. Fangs. Gills. And a necklace. And then you put studs in its ears?
This is a wonderful example of how not to design a character. It’s more overdone than the acting in a telenovela, with all the pretentious obnoxious edge of Justin Beiber. It’s an example of a character under the “original species” tag that just tries too hard for originality.
Plain ponies are beautiful, simple, and adorable. This just looks bad.
I like it because there’s a lot of cool and weird shit all under one roof.
I just started looking at the tag and I saw Airplane ponies… THIS TAG IS SO AWESOME!
I don’t think all OCs that are an original species are bad. The tag itself is pretty interesting.
No. Stop encouraging them! There’s already enough bad OCs!
Eh, why not. The original species tag could use a bolster anyway.
It’s not really, but it should be. Let the multiple species of ponies thrive!
