I see. I’ve actually only seen the ones with Smooze, Tirek, and Grogar. I saw the Smooze one about 10 years ago or so while visiting a cousin who happened to have it on VHS.
…it’s because Shout Factory hates us, and shows us with G3.
I’ve been curious about G1 ever since 1) I got into FiM in 2010, and 2) I found out that the first theatrical release of MLP outdid the first Transformers movie.
Stop bludgeoning us with G3 crap, Shout Factory!
…I haven’t actually seen any of G1. I keep meaning to remedy that, but I can never seem to find the time to.
It’d be nice if Shout Factory would release some of those on DVD and on Netflix Instant, but for some reason, they’ve only been re-releasing G3 stuff.
Is that to say that you haven’t seen the episode?
Well, I think the CONCEPT is still pretty creepy (in fact, I think Discord’s schtick of making the ponies act opposite to their Element was similar to what the Smooze did), but the Smooze itself looks and acts rather silly. Not helped by the fact that the witches who released him are otherwise not very threatening from what I hear.
But G1 did have some really freaky villains. Tirac, Grogar, Crunch the Rock Dog (I’ve heard that his episode feels almost like a horror movie at points)…
He’s not so frightening nowadays, I now find him to be quite humorous

I want them to bring back either Tirac or Grogar. Thing is, due to some complicated trademark issues, it’s never going to happen…
