I don’t know (yet) about other background ponies but I had a thing going on when I’d post as one partially due to the fanfic with Lyra.
Short of an admin removing anonymity from all my posts, there’s no way anyone could tie them all together. That’s kind of the point actually, and I have used my account name on a handful of occasions where it’s been particularly relevant.
As for people who hate on BP’s, I can’t please everyone. If some people are so unwilling to look past names that they speak out against people who choose anonymity, then I just don’t care about them.
But, being a user that always is using the anon BP, doesn’t make it gain reputation for being always anon? I mean, when in some day, you reveal your real identity (and I mean your name accout) you will be recognized as the Anon Guy?
Also, I always see people around here calling the BPs “Anonymus Cowards” or something like that. Dunno man.
No. It’s just that I have no interest in gaining any kind of reputation on this site, positive or negative. I don’t want to be worrying about what I say in case people use it against me in future, and I don’t want people to value my posts above others simply because they recognise my name.
Names lead to reputations which lead to egos which lead to circle-jerking. I want nothing to do with that.

I always post as Anon. I like to think that it makes both me and others focus more on the content of my post rather than who’s saying/reading it.
It really depends largely on perspective. /mlp/ is subject to Poe’s law more often than most, and a significant proportion of people there are just trying to troll each other. That means that if you go in looking for super serious drama, you’ll find it, but if you go in looking for a light hearted laugh you’ll probably find that too. I have no idea whether the majority of /mlp/ are serious or not.
I think the image captures that pretty well, assuming that Dan’s grin is one of insanity rather than joy.
