Not really, it starts with rumors of blood drinking, which make sense because bats. From there it’s all just built up more and more by liars and ignorant ponies.

Sad to say, I think the ponies of Ponyville may be a tad speciesist.
 
I love my dad, I really do. It’s perfectly possible to be a very nice person except for the casual racism, sexism and homophobia. With anybody else, I’d say, no, that makes you less of a person I want to be around, I don’t really care to make the effort to find out a lot of good qualities to counterbalance all of that because I have better things to do with my time, mostly with people who don’t exhibit those qualities. But I grew up with him, so I know him. That’s family. You love them, you just don’t let that sort of thing slide when it comes up in your presence.
