That’s one way of looking at it.
Maybe I’ve just been spoiled by the awesomeness of Bulk and Skull, who went from one-dimensional bullies, to somewhat nice people, to true heroes over the course of six seasons of Power Rangers. But I’d like to see Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon get some depth to them. Give Silver Spoon a heel realization, which of course would lead to Diamond Tiara having a heel realization.
The hell is up with that gif?

If Friendship is Magic ever becomes a fatalistic adventure into learned helplessnes, then I will most likely stop watching.
I’m actually not making that assumption; I’m thinking about how bullies frequently get the admiration of their peers from their actions, and the fear they inspire in those they consider inferior to themselves.
Granted, if you could change their environment so that they didn’t get such rewards from their behavior, they’d probably be willing to change; I just don’t think it’s always (or even often) possible to make those changes.

Ah, you’re one of those who thinks bronies outnumber the target audience.
Assuming that a person’s behavior is entirely a function of their core character, and not taking into account their environment is such a basic error in psychology that it was given the name, “The Fundamental Attribution Error.” People can learn, and often times must change as they do.
Furthermore, by portraying bullies as one dimensional, it actually lessens the long term impact of their usage in the show. Making them realistic and relatable would go further to giving children the tools they need to deal with bullies.
Kids would see bullies as evil, but shouldn’t the writers know the vast majority of viewers would want them redeemed?
“assuming they want to change” – Bingo. Some are going to enjoy the power they get from bullying too much to ever want to change.

I’m afraid I don’t understand what you’re asking here…
But…what about the bronies?
Anyone can change, assuming that they want to change. It is an incredibly small number of people that are so rotten to the core that they have no positive qualities whatsoever.
Well, there’s some bullies who can be redeemed, and some who can’t. It’s kinda hard to show that distinction in a kid’s show, though.
Here’s hoping that they get at least a little bit of time to be decent folk in the next season.
And there’s another called “Diamond’s Road to Recovery”. It’s unfinished, but the first chapter is nice enough.
Heeey, I just finished reading that myself! What a coincidence! It was pretty sweet, even if Diamond Tiara’s transition from bully to nice girl was a little fast for my tastes. I love good redemption stories.
