Now… Lyra being highly excitable, emotional, and a bit eccentric? I get get behind.
The human aspect? Not so much.
Now, see, that’s a perfect example of an undesirable characterization, casting a perfectly innocent character in a criminal light.

That’s the sort of thing I’d love to see more of, yes.
I mostly just use the jokes as springboards for my own characterizations.
Like, for instance, making Lyra an eccentric nut, human loving or not.

It doesn’t even have to be undesirable; I’m mostly OK with the idea of Lyra wanting to know more about (or even be more like) humans, and there’s nothing wrong with Derpy liking muffins. But both of those (and other fandom characterizations, probably) have reached the point of drowning out other characterizations, and made the characters more boring as a result.
Long comment short: Variety is the spice of fandom.
That’s what worries me; the popularity of a (undesirable) quirk will become so ingrained into the fandom’s heads, it will either make it so people can’t make or suggest deviations of the character’s personality or character without getting flamed about not following the fandom’s views, or those (undesirable) quirks become canon.
Besides, you’d be hard-pressed to find non human-obsessed Lyra and such.
Long story short, I’m not into human-obsessed Lyra.
Well, that’s become the focus of the overwhelming majority of Lyra fanworks, but not all. Same with Derpy and muffins: the fandom’s taken a cute quirk and driven it, not just into the ground, but under the mantle.
We ONLY get to see her doing human-obsessed stuff, though. :l@DanielTepesKraus
I just hope they don’t canonical make Lyra obsess about humans. That would be the worst.
