Darn it, Celestia. Why you no buddy up your students? Though I’m still not sure when exactly Miss Shimmer left, so maybe Twi wasn’t even discovered by then. Either way, certainly wish they’d had the chance to meet on friendlier terms!

Yeah. I think Celestia may have tried to get Sunset friends, but more along the lines of her own age. (Though she blew off Lyra and the others so that didn’t work.)
 
A little sister figure like Twilight however could have helped set her straight. (She’d be a bit more interested in being a good role model then the mirror…Which Celestia just didn’t tell Sunset anything about….after she showed it to her.)
