Yeah, everybody knew about that… unless, of course, they didn’t make it to G5 or never heard of or saw G5.
Yes, ponies never had technology until G5 was made, starting with A New Generation. The A New Generation movie was the first in the MLP series to feature ponies using technology, like computers, phones, etc. However, Equestria Girls, which are the human counterparts to ponies in the G4 universe, was the first in the MLP series where non-ponies could be seen using modern day technology.
Despite official canon in the MLP G4 franchise showing the characters using modern technology, fans have changed this in their canon since 2011 and continue to do so as of today.
