I still think it’s overlooked how dirty they did Spike in the connecting spinoff and the movie. A dog in EQG and a fish in Seaquestria? It’s meant to be a gag but he was straight-up given the pet treatment. Let’s add some perspective:
If the Student 6 went to the human world, Smolder would be a beagle.
If Ember, the dragon lord, used a seapony necklace, she’d be a pufferfish.
