That’s just Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie who didn’t know about the game’s existence earlier. And even if Twilight’s other friends hadn’t heard of it before, that doesn’t mean that this comic can’t take place before the end of Season 3.

Rainbow Dash: Yeah, I’m kind of an expert.
Applejack: Hmph. An expert who hadn’t heard of the game either until I told you.
Rainbow Dash: Well, it’s a new game. I probably know more than most ponies, so that makes me an expert.
Pinkie Pie: I don’t know anything about it at all. But it sounds like there’s a ball and bucking, so I’m betting it’s super duper fun!

Right from the show’s mouth. This is during season six, where no one else but Applejack knows its existence. It wasn’t until later that it became a hit.
