Refusing to listen to music “because it’s sung by coloreds” is a shame. This is a disagreement and possibly a misunderstanding.
 
I’m talking about the “one guy with a camera” recorders, as well as sites like Everfree. They’re preventing it from being recorded by people who have the means and are willing to do it, albeit at low quality. As far as these Tweets explain, they don’t have to. If the con staff clarifies elsewhere that there are things like legal issues or someone at Hasbro told them not to allow recording, fine. They’re within their rights to do that. But if nobody is making them eject people who record the panel, and based on the information I see here, they aren’t, what’s the point? They don’t have to let people record the panel, but they don’t have to not let them do it, either.  
Everfree doesn’t have to stream panels, cons, or really anything if they don’t want to or decide it’s not worth it. That’s absolutely correct. But con coverage gets them site-wrecking amounts of viewers, which I assume they like. They don’t have to stream these, but if views matter, it’s not a bad idea.
 
Yes, cons and the guests at them are great and it’s super-cool of them to do whatever they’re going to do at all. I sincerely, no sarcasm hope everyone there who gets to see it enjoys it immensely. I just also sincerely, no sarcasm wish people who can’t go to L.A. could enjoy it immensely, too.
 
Also, I was smiling when I wrote the fateful comment. I meant it, but I also thought it was funny. Stop reading things into it that aren’t there.

Joe Average’s $500 isn’t the sort of stuff that cuts it for these things. Conventions need loads of gear you can’t just get at a wallmart, not to mention loads of cable and people competent enough to operate it.
 
That’s not even mentioning that no one sane would go “yeah, let’s depend on visitors to bring us the equipment we need”. Then nobody shows up with a mic worth a damn. Even if they did schedule certain people to bring certain things, what happens if they don’t show up? It all goes to shit. And of course, if anyone tried anything like this, the fandom would be in uproar about those cheapskate amateurs.

Actually, it comes free. People at the convention, I guarantee, already have that equipment, want to bring it in with them, and are being threatened with expulsion if they do so. The polar opposite of “not cheap,” the convention is devoting resources to PREVENTING it.
 
Now, there may be reasons, like some sort of appearance contract with the voice talent, a desire to make money off a con video they themselves will sell, etc. But it has nothing to do with any technical or financial inability to do it. All they would need to do is NOT put effort into preventing it.

It’s a shame that people have attitudes like this. Everfree Network started streaming conventions because of this thing we all love. They did it as a courtesy.
 
Now, some people have come to expect it. How rude and self-entitled.
 
Conventions don’t have to happen, and talent doesn’t have to come to them. Stop reading things into it that aren’t there.
 
Sure, I can’t go. I’m really curious, too, but I’m not going to be upset about it. I’ve been going to conventions for over 17 years now. Having easy, online access to conventions is a luxury. All that equipment does not come cheap.

I bet it’s the /unrated edition/ of Equestria Girls.

Google glasses are obvious. And also nobody you know has ever even seen a pair, much less own them.
 
But $19.95 spy pens fit unobtrusively in your pocket. Good luck to them keeping those out. Or cheap audio recorders. Or cell phones.or ballcap cams. Or people who stand up to take still photos, but have actually had the thing on video record since the panel started. Or…

It’s Rude Removal all over again isn’t it?

Not technically pony related, but imagine how hard it’s going to be to enforce these things or stop movie theatre filming when Google Glass comes out. Especially if they have it hooked to their prescription lenses or something.

Unless they’re going to do another comedy episode reading, or a reading if something from S4, then whatever they say will be out in a matter of hours. One recording device that they can’t keep out is people’s brains.
