Thinking about how many times he might have looked at that picture, thinking of her…😭
Apparently him becoming a gambler/collector was indeed his way of coping with the loss of his daughter/family.

Well, at least it’s not like suddenly she has an older brother who is getting married to her babysitter; both of those were never mentioned or seen before. ;)

Also, I’m sure most parents would immidiately recognize their own lost child, even if at least 10 years have passed since then…🙄 I mean, Misty was like 5 years old when she got lost and she’s a young adult now.
So if you’re referring to the Manesquerade Ball scene, I’m pretty sure that Alphabittle recognized her, despite all the years passed, and it was more like he didn’t believe his very own eyes, probably that’s why he immediately brushed away the idea, when his vision was covered by an another pony.
Even irl parents who have their kids lost, tend to see their missing loved-ones in faces of complete strangers time to time. It’s like the image and the memory of their child is haunting them for most if not for all of their remaining lives. And they’re usually kinda getting tired of it and/or getting used to it after a while…
It’s really tragic if you think about it that way.
