If you really think this then you have some major issues against Christianity. christianity doesn’t contradict modern science to that much of a degree. The only thing in it that really goes against it is the belief humans didn’t evolve from apes, and that’s it, Christianity doesn’t say anything against evolution in general. And even then there’s multiple ways a person could hypothesize how the story of Adam of eve and human evolution could theoretically fit together. And why target Christianity, I can think of dozens of religions that are more “backwards” as some might put it
Don’t forget Albert einstein, antonie von leeuwenhoek, and Louis pastuer, Galileo, and despite popular belief in the contrary Charles Darwin
You say that there are no smart Christians today? Wow, the sheer ignorance and bigotry.
Edited
Now what possible reason would you have for assuming that? Did you even read it?
Some people are literally too stupid to insult.
This is all assuming this image isn’t being ironic of course.
>there are no smart Christians in modern day times
That is exactly the wrong thing to be commenting on this picture.
Kinda horrifying to think that there might actually be people that think that athiesm is a fad. The only reason the olden day geniouses beelived in God was because like 99% of the population, that’s what they were told by everyone they ever looked up to. They literally had no choice. There are no smart Christians in modern day times, which proves this point. Though the definition of Christian has become massively wider over the centuries, so I’m not counting the smart pseudo-christians.
Agreed, while Feminism as a concept is pretty fair, Feminism the movement is full of hypocrisies and hijackers who don’t actually believe what the movement stands for.
Why not make fun of them when this happens?
What’s wrong with bashing feminists? I love that shit.
Given that religious ideas do what they can to dodge honest inquiry as to whether they’re actually true, I feel one can be content to just go with the majority opinion for each and every one of them.
As for the pic though… The fedora made her do it. Next on the fedora’s agenda: a round of feminist bashing, stewed in some more logical fallacies.
The fedoras are another piece on the pile of proof that holding any particular idea doesn’t make you smart by default, nor protect you from being a moron. Their existence is sad but inevitable.
Fine, that’s cool. If you don’t feel like it, you don’t feel like it.
1.) A good portion of those scripture I’ve already seen and read a few times each. I’d make another rebuttal but I just got home from work and I’ve already got a migraine, so I really don’t feel like doing that.
2.) True, I may be biased in the favor of assuming that the Bible is always right, but at the very least that bias drives me (and others like myself) to search for more complete answers instead of just seeing what’s on the surface and assuming it’s just one jumbled mess.
It’s obvious I’m not about to convince you of anything, nor you convince me, so howsabout we just break it off here and call it a day? This is a Pony board after all.
Or he could just be big on that whole, free will thing. If he swooped down and fixed any problems, then you’d be complaining about that. That he’s interfering with your life.
Basically God’s mo is “You figure it out.”
Sorry, that BP was me. I don’t know why it didn’t do a legit reply, either.
Did you go to your preacher to hear that? Can you back that up? Don’t get a swell head, Mr. Humble Christian, it’s not me who’s displaying bias or conceit. I acknowledge there are some false things, true things, good teachings, bad teachings, and contradictions in the bible. You’re the one twisting it to pretend passages don’t exist or say what they say.
As far as I’m aware, there is no real life evidence of the place called Gehenna being a giant trash dump, not literary or archaeological. In fact, every reference to this legend in the bible I’ve come across actually describes it as a sacrificial pit in tribute to Baal (until God changed it). The idea that this was a trash heap originated from a jewish rabbi around 1200AD, with nothing to back it up.
Last I checked, a fire that never existed, doesn’t burn eternally (like it says Hell does in Mark and Matthew), either. I find it hard to believe Jesus would allude to an eternally burning place on earth that didn’t even exist in his time.
I’m well aware that Luke 16:19-25 is a parable. The point is that Jesus taught the rich man would suffer after death, and the poor man would be granted comfort. The rich man was buried, and the end of the parable mentions that if Lazarus were resurrected, he’d be “risen.”
Have another Matthew 25:31-46
He’s not simply telling stories, he’s threatening damnation.
John 11 tells the story of Lazarus’s resurrection. It’s quite clear that “sleep” in this context is used as a metaphor. Jesus even has to explain to his confused disciples he means death in verse 14. The same for “resurrection;” waking to salvation or damnation.
Revelations 20:10 The false prophet. Men who are not God’s prophets.
Matthew 25:41 “Prepared for the devils and his angels.” 25:46 “Everlasting punishment.”
Jesus also says in Luke 23:43 the thief will be in paradise with him, “TODAY.”
Deuteronomy 34:5 Moses dies. 2 Kings 2:11 Elijah is taken to heaven (or somewhere four several centuries). Matthew 17:1-3 They appear before Jesus centuries after death (unless Elijah is immortalized without death).
Ecclesiastes 12:5-7
Do these passages not imply an immortal soul?
Y’see this is where you tacitly admit your bias. You twist what Jesus means, because you acknowledge that would be contradictory, despite what the scripture teaches. You have a preconceived notion that scripture and/or Jesus cannot be wrong, no matter what. THAT is what bias is, don’t project it onto me. In fact you’re so convinced you’re right you won’t even look at some of the passages I provided you.
The one in Luke regarding Lazarus and the rich man is pretty clearly a parable for a few reasons. The most important reason was that on multiple occasions Jesus had totally rejected any notion that the soul survives death, instead comparing it to a deep sleep (John 11:11-14). To say that he’s now talking about the soul surviving, some being at the foot of Abraham, and some being tortured, would be inconsistent at best and stupid at worst. The other thing to keep in mind is who he was talking to: Pharisees, who did believe in the concepts I just brought up. Jesus was well known for using various settings for his parables, especially if using that setting would help the listener to understand what he was saying. That’s what happened there.
As for what’s being said in John, he pretty plainly states that those who are doing good things would be resurrected to a good life, and those who did vile things would be resurrected to some good ol’ fashioned judgement. I see no mentioning of torture anywhere in that sentence. Moving on.
I don’t even need to look up the one in Revelation to know what you’re talking about there: the lake of fire, right? Okay, first of all, the creatures being thrown into that lake are never mentioned to be humans, it’s pretty explicitly mentioned to be:
It even states that those thrown into this metaphorical lake are experience the “second death”, a metaphor for death that doesn’t come with the chance of resurrection.
Also I ignored the rest of your post because I really don’t like verbally trashing people like you this late in the night, but here you are, forcing my hand. * sigh * It’s a real pain sometimes, but what can I say? I really don’t like it when people twist the bible to fit their own agenda.
Ooh. Wrong again, fella.
Mark 9:43-49
Luke 16:19-25
Matthew 18:8-9
John 5:29
Revelations 20:10, 20:15
Seriously, if you’re gonna make claims about biblical teachings, make sure you’ve actually read the Bible. After all, if Jesus came to die for our sins and save us, what else would we be saved from?
I also like how you just ignore the rest of my post.
It literally is in Norway, because of Hel(l)
As to the second part
It’s times like there that I wish I got every reference ever because that one has so far eluded me.
It is in Norway
But not in keeeeen~yaaaaa
