I consider headcanon to be your personal views, and fanon to be views that multiple people share. I guess they could be considered the same thing though.

You talk about ‘fanon’ and ‘headcanon’ as if they were two different things.
Did he even say anything meaningful enough to be considered right or wrong? The only purpose of his post is to try and provoke someone.
Anyway, the popular background ponies have strong established fanons. It’s not about personal headcanon, it’s about fanon that has been well rooted for a long time now. You can’t just drop it when it’s been there that long.
Hey,the dude is right,Derpy,Dinky and Time Turner aren’t anything.
Still,these are background ponies,people can mold them into what they want.The real problem would be if people start taking their headcanons seriously.It would make their tears delicious if Hasbro or the staff decide to give them actual backgrounds.
This, that’s the fun thing about background ponies, you can pretty much give them any background story you want as well as mold them into whatever you want them to be.
