How can anyone look at this and just think that it’s funny?
Because the writer distilled a lot of the thoughts I’ve had about the comics canon vs the show canon into one character, and it’s hilarious? I don’t know what bee wound up in your bonnet, but there’s nothing wrong with presenting an argument (which is about continuity, mind you, not the quality of the comic’s writing) in a facetious way, especially when the argument itself (the continuity being all over the place) isn’t disputed at all. In fact, wouldn’t making the in-universe writer of the comics Spike, of all characters, be the perfect explanation for all the discrepancies between the show and comics? That it was the dorky kid who liked comics in the show who canonically wrote the IDW comics, while the events of that same show played out, which is why the comic is the way that it is, for better and for worse? Was that not the whole point of the 4-page short that was made a year after the G4 Run of the MLP IDW comics ended in the first place? I think you might’ve mistaken the comic ribbing itself, for it ribbing you.
Also, the last page reveals that Dragontown and Mina were real, as were a bunch of other things from the comics, so in the end, the canon of MLP is whatever you (the reader) want to make of it. As Random Background Pony in Page 3 puts it, “I wish Sombra could have been redeemed! I like that better than what actually happened.” Truest sentiment I’ve ever heard expressed.

Kinda glad I don’t understand anything going on here
Best I can guess is a writer got annoyed at the fans & did the “ respectful” thing & made a straw man oc to vent & thus making his problem worse
They should probably try to evaluate the actual situation but I can’t blame them for being annoyed🤷🏽‍♂️

Spike isn’t the one who made My Little Pony Transformers… there is a youtuber who was a loremaster of My Little Pony and Transformers are made.

Bruh, this comic is literally just another shitty “chad vs soyjak” meme.
But to the actual characters in the universe they’re in, wouldn’t it be perfectly justified to call someone out on blatant lies and propaganda to bolster their own image? Wouldn’t a normal individual reading the “Redemption of Sombra’ be justifiably pissed off when he later came back in full evil mode and zero implication some divine kind pony who he loved had ever existed at all? Wouldn’t the CMC be annoyed he made out Discord to be their honorary member?
Sure, we know the writer/artist is just being insecure on a meta level, that much is obvious, but in regards to the story itself, in-universe, doesn’t that guy make far more sense and is perfectly reasonable to call out actual lies made to make him and his friends look better? Doesn’t make the next page of people praising the lies over the thing that happened, well, kind of deluded and sad? Genuinely unable to accept reality and more angry someone pointed out the truth?
There’s some kind of deeper message to be had here about the inability of the creative to accept the reality of the situation that’s far more interesting than just another strawman.
Also there were few instances in the comics where our so called “heroes” were total jerks and wrong (see: Twilight Sparkle in the Cattle Rustlers arc), that makes you question why Spike would write something like that.

But the comic is clearly making this character the representative of anyone who criticizes the comics. And I actually like the comics to some extent; I see them as a mixed bag. The Sombra redemption arc was pure trash, but I like basically everything else I’ve ever read from it. My favorite is the one where Pinkie Pie and Rarity try to create their own story and it goes through a bunch of different art styles.
This comic page is the absolute worst thing I’ve seen from the comic, though. It’s just like that Velma trailer, where she’s just playing a terrible representation of anyone that would ever criticize the show. It’s not funny, it comes off as a mental breakdown from the writers. And that’s because it is. And it’s not even an individual breakdown, it’s societal. At some point, we decided that what the haters online are saying actually is the most important thing in the world and that you should give all your attention to it. This comic could’ve been a fun thing for the fans instead.
My idea for an alternative comic: Pinkie Pie and Twilight are reminiscing about their memories as friends over the years. Over the course of their discussion, Pinkie Pie keeps remembering things that only happened in the comic, confusing Twilight, who’s memories are only of the show. However, Pinkie Pie’s memories of things make their way into modern day (such as Good Sombra passing by.) She then starts to remember things from Pony Life and then her memories get completely crazy and sound like ridiculous fan fiction. However, all of her memories appear in reality, driving Twilight crazy. In the end, Pinkie tells Twilight not to think too hard about it, as it’s just a silly one-off comic, which gives Twilight an existential crisis, realizing that she’s a fictional character. Twilight looks down the page and sees the “The End“ sign, so she turns to the audience and begs them to keep rereading, so that her universe doesn’t cease to exist. The End.
That’s just a silly idea I came up with to show that you can actually acknowledge some of the things people dislike about the comic without getting into “we hate the critics” territory. They’re free to do any idea, that’s just a fun one I came up with, which is a lot more positive than this.

Criiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinge.
You know, I was just thinking about shit like this earlier today, without knowing that this comic even existed. Social media has rotted the brains of so many people and it’s completely ruined art. It’s beyond pathetic to respond to criticism in such an obviously butthurt and emotional way. How can anyone look at this and just think that it’s funny? It’s mental illness on full display.
As someone with my own mental issues, it’s very concerning to me to see my own self-destructive tendencies glorified by TV shows, movies and comics. The female Ghostbusters, that Star Wars movie, Harley Quinn, the new Velma show and now this. Please stop giving the haters the time of day. 😑
And please do not confuse this as a criticism of “wokeness”, or whatever, as the people who work on all of the properties I mentioned would obviously assume that any critic of theirs must be obsessed with. I legit thought that this was a Fury Belle comic at first, because the way that it presents the opposing side is just as petty and ridiculous. I just can’t stand anyone that’s so obsessed with internet arguments that they feel the need to highlight the comments that piss them off on Twitter.
Whatever happened to ignoring the haters? Now it’s “let the haters decide every aspect of your art, purely out of spite.” And everyone is like this nowadays! I am so glad that Elon Musk bought Twitter, because the site was clearly a net negative for the world as a whole. The site deserves to be ruined! An entire generation of people obsessed with nothing more than their flame war with the people who don’t like them. Hopefully everyone who writes for any type of media from now on makes the decision to never have a personal profile on a public site again, so we won’t have to see this endless brigade of butthurtary.
Seriously, for your own mental health, once you realize that you have the urge to depict your haters in your comic, just go to therapy instead. Or try microdosing. It’s working for me, to some extent. I have my highs and lows like anyone else, but at least having the high periods allows me to think critically of my own impulses during my bad periods. Obsessing over haters is not healthy for anyone.
