As far as Derpy being paired with Doctor Whooves over Roseluck, I’d have to say it’s because Derpy fits the character portrayal of Rose more than Roseluck does. In the show Rose was portrayed as a blonde, ditzy airhead. Who out of anypony on the show fits that description more accurately than Derpy?

I don’t know, reading the first couple of fanfic stories with “My Little Time Lord” they actually have some neat chemistry and background. I really liked the whole “dying filly Derpy taking in some of the Doctor’s regeneration energy making her a clutzy airhead” headcannon. At the same time, I think they, being the two most popular “fan” characters just seem to click.

On a related note, there’s been a really sad lack of Clara being ponified.
