I think you’re confusing low self esteem as something that causes inferior thoughts, or at least that’s how it’s written. Low self esteem is an effect of unhealthy mental habits. As I mentioned, it’s healthy to compare your works to others and is only unhealthy when you dismiss yourself because you aren’t like them. Doing so will potentially lead to self-doubts and deprecation, resulting in low self esteem.

I mean, I’m not saying to not take inspiration from others cause without that we wouldn’t have anything being made anymore. What I’m more implying is that it’s better to have your own unique identity and practice instead of comparing yourself to others and measuring your own work to them. I know that people are different and there are those with low self esteem who look at other more successful creators and think of themselves as inferior for it.
As a person who makes music just by what I like to listen to, I can tell you that creating your own style and identity is greatly helped by drawing creative inspiration from others. It’s healthy to compare your works to others and is only unhealthy when you dismiss yourself because you aren’t like them. :)
