I think Hasbro now include a last name for her to avoid trademark issues while at the same time wanting to bring her back to a new generation. Remember, when FiM was in production, Posey was unable to appear due to trademark issues. According to the USPTO, “a trademark has to be in continuous use in commerce for a period of five years after the date of registration”.
While I’m no expert in understanding trademark laws, I think Hasbro can’t use the name “Posey” anymore due to they haven’t use it since the 1980s and thus, they lost the trademark. That’s why Lauren Faust’s Posey have to be renamed to Fluttershy due to Hasbro has a trademark name for “Fluttershy” from G3 and the last G3 Fluttershy toy to be released was in 2006, a few years before FiM was in production. I think this is also why only Basic Fun is able to produce reproductions of the original Posey toy and not Hasbro.
Here, Hasbro is able to bring back Posey by adding a last name “Bloom” to avoid running into trademark issues.
