1984 is actually incredibly unrealistic, for the reasons you mentioned and many others.
 
Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World is much closer to plausibility, and even it’s got issues. Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 is even closer (just don’t listen to anything he said about it).

oh really? every government ever have been called “the real 1984” everything in the book has lost all its meaning. The way the party runs thinks is so stupid the only reason why it didn’t fall apart in a week is the writer wanted it to be super perfect.
 
North Korea is the closest to the style of the party and look at it. It barely works everyone’s lies in there reports result  
ing in failure over and over and the Only reason its still around is aid namely form the south China and the us the first two because they don’t want it to fail and deal with the millions of refugees.
 
So yeah 1984 is never going to come to a reality
