Twilight: (Looks)
Trixie: (Flicks her snoot) :P
Yeah. It would have been neat to have given it a name that hinted that Discord was secretly behind it, if they even had to have that twist at all. Personally, I would have had Grogar be real, and have his plan be revealed to be the destruction of everything. Ashlands Timeline, no survivors, 100% extinction event, total end of all things. Tirek, Chrysalis, and Cozy then team up with the ponies to prevent this, purely for their own survival and to save the world they one day want to conquer. Then end it any which way, like maybe the three villains go down fighting and Twilight remarks on how maybe there was some good in them all along, maybe they escape to fight another day, anything would work :D
I know I said I’d stop but I want to say one thing that has nothing to do with this discussion. I don’t like to call the three final villains Legion of Doom. It’s literally the same as the one from the DC universe. There’s no change, no difference, it’s the same name. It would be better to call them Mean 3, Elements of Disharmony, or even Dark Harmony. I know it’s not the official name but it’s kind of uncreative. :P
In a more generalized sense then, it’s definitely why I like creating cause and effect kind of characters, like having Cozy Glow’s dad become a villain and a threat to Equestria because of what they did to his daughter, or like how ponies and changelings get along worse than ever because Thorax’s rainbow hive basically instilled the belief in ponies that normal changelings are bad and so the ponies now discriminate against them, and how proof that the Legion of Doom was staged by Discord was leaked and strained Equestria’s relations with a number of these countries and even sundered Twilight’s almost successful effort to end hostilities with one of them. I like when actions, good or bad, have reasonable direct consequences. It’s why I really like Magic Duel, is the actions of the main characters, which they at the time they thought nothing of, ended up having these really dire consequences for them later and it doesn’t even matter whose actions were right or wrong :D
@DragonBoi471
She does kind of have a darkness to her, when you really think about it. It’s why I like Twilight so much, is it seems like she’s always been just a nudge away from being a villain :D

And since Twilight is now the ruler of Equestria, she’s probably gonna end up becoming the old Starlight (If the recent IDW comics and plot for G5 are any indication :P).
No Second Prances is partially on Twilight for her severe lack of trust. No matter what good she has done for Sarlight, she can’t control who Starlight makes friend with just because she had beef with said friend. In that case she actually becomes the old Starlight who controls an entire village on how to act and think. Of course Starlight demands trust from her teacher. It’s like an abusive parent. Just because they took me in and took care of me, doesn’t mean I need to obey their emotional manipulations and desires to control.
Anyway that’s besides the point. The point is attitude. Starlight doesn’t need to be punished for her actions because she knows what her mistakes are. Starlight is self-aware enough to admit wrong while Discord needs a constant reminder that he is wrong. And even when he apologizes he does it with reluctance like he still doesn’t think he’s wrong. He acts like a spoiled child who cries to get what they want. My A Matter of Principals example still stands as again Starlight was the one apologizing while Discord never does when he literally almost feeds a bunch of kids to a bugbear. Also Discord’s punishment only happens before he betrays Equestria with Tirek. He got no more afterward, not after he helped Tirek destroyed Equestria, not after he reunited four major villains. They admit he’s out of control but that doesn’t enable him to continue rather than change to be better. The least they could have done is restrict his power so he doesn’t go overboard. It’s not like he never manipulates either. He faked his own injury to gain sympathy from the mane six, especially Fluttershy like her worries don’t mean anything to him.
That’s probably it. I think my primary bias toward Discord is because of Fluttershy. Throughout the entire series, Fluttershy has shown nothing but support, care, and love towards Discord, but he does nothing but break her heart, make her angry, or make her worry. When he was siding with Tirek he made a point he does it mostly for Fluttershy but he still betrays her anyway. That’s why the argument that “the Mane Six weren’t fair to him” doesn’t work for me, because Fluttershy is right there always defending him whenever he’s mistreated. If he truly has changed for the better and is content with his life, he should always remind himself what would his actions do to Fluttershy. If he really cares for the one mare that cares for him, she should be his top priority, not trying to mess with someone’s board game or throw someone into a different dimension because of his insecurities.
Well I went on a tantrum and here I go arguing about Discord again. I think I’m terribly deviating from the topic already so I’m gonna stop here. If you wanna continue this discussion I think it’s better if we use PM. I love having this kind of discussions with you and honestly wanna do more. :D
What I like about it is the two characters are very similar in their motives and their actions, so not only is it very easy to combine them but also trims the story down by patching some plot holes and making the main characters seem less self-serving, like they don’t just change their beliefs on a whim wherever it serves them best :P

@Red-Supernova
The difference is three-fold, I think. One is that Discord actually was punished for his actions, like he spent at least a thousand years conscious in stone. Two is that Discord was only freed on the proviso that he use his powers for good (so basically a pony version of the Suicide Squad) and it actually was a concern to them that he was just lying to screw them over or may have been irredeemable and they took a number of steps to protect Equestria from him. Three is they actually acknowledge in the show that he’s a selfish stupid amoral psychopath, even if they don’t meaningfully react to it. Compared to Starlight, where she’s just been constantly rewarded for her bad behavior and characters act out-of-character to cater to her and she’s never suffered a single real consequence for any of her actions, but she’s every bit as stupid and self-serving and dangerous, it’s a lot harder to stomach. Like how Rainbow Dash has no problem whatsoever with Starlight despite her deliberately hurting Dash’s friends multiple times and trying to destroy their friendships and everything Dash believes in and values, yet Rainbow Dash ended a friendship with a childhood friend for being a bit of a jerk to her new friends and was was willing to give up her lifelong dream because people in that organization indirectly and accidentally endangered her friends and didn’t care :P
@Wayneponeth
She was selfish and entitled enough to demand better treatment and more favors from Twilight in No Second Prances, and to accuse Twilight of not treating her well enough, after Twilight had dropped a massive grudge against her, trusted her on her own word that she had changed despite her being a lying manipulator, convinced all of her friends to do the same, gave her a home in a castle, gave her everything in life she wanted and asked for, ensured she suffered no consequences for crimes that other villains died or were eternally sealed away for, devoted a massive portion of her life to mentoring her, and gave her a life of privilege where she would never have to fear punishment for bad behavior and would be constantly given increasingly prestigious positions and connections in life. Say what you want about Discord, but he’s at least content with what they gave him :P
Yeah, forgot to mention their attitude too. That’s certainly what makes me like Starlight more. I mean she didn’t ask for a throne after destroying the entire Equestria. Even the show has some sort of biased toward these two. Like in A Matter of Principals when it’s somehow Starlight’s fault when Discord not only put students in danger but insulted the one mare trying her best to take care of a school. She apologizes while he takes no blame at all. How is THAT fair?
@Wayneponeth
THANKS BOTH OF YOU. At least with Starlight, she gets the hint of what she’s done was wrong but with Discord, he’s oblivious to the malice he’s causing unless its to his disadvantage like in Make New Friends but Keep Discord.
Non-Compete Clause is a bad episode to begin with. It’s better we pretend it didn’t exist. :P
But seriously, speaking of hypocrisy, just like Red-Supernova said, Starlight always gets the worse treatment. I always have problems with this double standard between Discord and Starlight. They’re basically the same. Both have a tendency to relapse and make severe mistakes but eventually become better in the end. But with Discord it’s always “Twilight and co didn’t treat him right” and “He had good intentions give him a break” when he literally betrayed or brought doom to the world, and with Starlight it’s “She’s a psychopath!”, “she shouldn’t be in the show!” when she mind controls her friends once and abandoned Silverstream because she needs to be with her friends. Discord gets excuses while Starlight gets unwanted hate. Either both of them deserve punishments or none of them does. That is fair.
I know that definitely sounds biased again but that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.
Yeah, Discord’s pretty incorrigible too.
I see. But I don’t like how Starlight still is the bad guy in the end because if everybody is gonna claim that Starlight made a heel-face turn, then so did Discord. And it feels unfair that he gets away clean if Starlight is gonna be written to be eventually fucked over. Yes, you can say I have a bias against Discord and yes I do, and I don’t care.
And it would be “too much to work on” of an overarching plot to the writers because they think what little girls would care about that in a show made to teach educational morals?
To be fair too, it’s way too easy for me to come along once everything is said and done and be like “They should have done it this way!” I have benefit of hindsight and being able to look at the entire series, the freedom to do what I want, and I don’t have to convince an entire group to agree with me :P
@Wayneponeth
The characters have always been pretty biased toward their own and themselves, to the point of hypocrisy. Like, Rainbow Dash in Non-Compete Clause did the exact same thing Lightning Dust did in Wonderbolts Academy, that is endanger those around them without caring one bit they almost killed someone because they were busy being competitive, but continued to hold a grudge against Lightning Dust all the same. Like, Celestia literally took a suggestion from Discord on what to do with the three who were endangering her kingdom, despite him being the one most directly responsible for their actions :P
Exactly, if Discord is allowed to be free and do whatever he wants even though he intentionally tried to destroy Equestria, Starlight can be the same when she unintentionally destroyed it. Either you let them both free or lock them both up. That’s the general idea!
Yay, double bias!
