Sort of. Fame and Misfortune was supposed to air earlier, I think before they fixed Fluttershy episodes. A fair few of the other criticisms in that episode targeted existing criticisms that people actually had, like when somebody makes an argument without really thinking about it. Shallow criticism that actually existed. That episode shot itself in the foot by putting genuine criticism on the same level as the ‘criticism’ they also took potshots at.

By contrast, criticism of the school would amount to the serious danger the children would be in, the irresponsibility of the protagonists, and general criticism of the idea itself.

Fame and Misfortune was backlash against mostly benign and sometimes shallow criticism, and mucked up by also targeting actual story criticism. What Chancellor Neighsay represents is considerably more scummy, since it’s actively and preemptively associating those criticisms with racism, weaponizing stupid people against critics who want to encourage better storytelling.

More along the lines of ‘the writers took criticisms they knew the audience would have about their new friendship school idea and took the easy route of making a bigot spout them so that he’s automatically in the wrong to the critically undiscerning’.

growing up is realizing neighsay had some valid points and just went about it the wrong way

Lemme see, nepotism is kinda to be found anywhere, but some nepotism if letting people in despite their attitude is too lousy (Trixie in this case) are disaster, this episode shows that social-connection credit isn’t the only thing that will help let you get in a certain job you want.
 
Even voting may still be a disaster, look at the certain orange guy.  
Attitude and how you able to see and understand the true purpose of a job you want is very important, to sustain it well, and get qualification in some stricter places to get in, as connections are just a bridge.

This makes me wonder how five ponies that have no teaching experience whatsoever can suddenly teach so well. As a person who was trying to be an English teacher once, having the knowledge definitely doesn’t mean you can teach it.

To be fair, Sunburst is certainly qualified. He just happened to be a friend as well.  
Totally agree on the mane 6, though.

It’s also how Sunburst gets the job anyways….also the mane six at the school actually. I can’t really blame the board of education for not sponsoring the school’s existence with how utterly Twilight packs it with her friends. Also amused at how Cheerilee likely reacted to not even being considered.

Plus Trixie’s a dumbass and Starlight isn’t as bias as Twilight is lol

 
And to top it off, that contributed to Trixie becoming the guidance counselor.
