This needs to be canon, where Spike can get his own true Element of Harmony, so he can be even more special than being a punching bag.

  1. Not really, Spike’s act of generosity was the thing that broke through he greed growth and saved Rarity.  
  2. Yes Spike have the book but it was indeed his honest that broke the spell and strengthened their friendship.

    6.agreed, and given a more serious situation I’m sure he’d be able to command the group like Twilight does if no one else is able to step up.
     
    Keep in mind that while he may be the cause for some of these the story is usually about learning his lesson. Plus it’s not like the mane six haven’t had to relearn their own elements before.

Although he was the one who caused those problems or made a problem that was easy to solve more difficult.
 
1.- He give the Gem to Rarity and then he is filled with Greed and wreaks havoc in Ponyville.  
2.- Spike was the one who gave that book to Rarity and causes her to wreak havoc in Ponyville.  
3.- Actually, in this Spike I hardly cause problems. Although here Twilight could help more with his magic.  
4.- Spike was able to tell his friends that he found the Chengeling from the beginning and convince them that he was not evil. (Because in the Crystal Empire, Spike is a hero and everyone would have heard him, although it is reasonable that the pressure did not let him think)  
5.- Spike makes fun of the problems of his family? (Although it’s understandable, Twilight looked funny).  
6.- Spike used all his friends as pawns just to get a crown? (It’s a family game, it’s understandable)

Well, every other main character also shares traits outside their element, to be exact. The elements are not like traits that only one character can possess, or traits that one character can only possess. They’re more like a subset of good qualities that help the heroine equines succeed and spread friendship.
