To add to the Superboy idea:  
What if Luster is literally a clone of Starlight? What if Twilight wanted the perfect student and secretly created Luster by splicing the DNA of Starlight and Sunburst?  
I seriously wouldn’t put it past Twilight to do that, for real.

Think about it, though. Logically determine what doesn’t make sense about it. All the people I’ve seen who say Luster is Starlight and Sunburst’s child do not actually say she is their child. Its a lot more like “Is that Starlight and Sunburst’s daughter?” at first glance. No convolution is included or required to come to such a simple possibility because its the path of least resistance in reasoning. If you find the idea “senseless” you might want to search your reasoning for bias. Is it possible that you might really just be sexist, mysoginistic, misandrynistic, and “gasp” straight phobic?

Luster is the daughter of Starlight the same way Connor Kent aka Superboy is Clark Kent’s son: yes and no.
