Never said it was. China buys its allies because its willing to make outrageous loans then gets things like ports and airports back when a country defaults.

You’re right. But not Seychelles, it was Solomon Islands.
Actually that just financial aid diplomacy.
It’s like someone befriending you just because you keep giving them money. once you stop giving them (or in this case, someone else giving them money more than you do) you are no longer friend.
So we don’t really care losing this kind of friend. :)
Seychelles recently have recognized PRC as defacto ‘true’ China and broke up relationship with Taiwan because of that. This is meme about that.
