Depends on which country you’re in and state laws. Some are dingy, nasty places, while others are quite high class and respectable places.
Pro-tip: When backpacking through places like Eastern Europe a brothel can provide better last minute accommodation than the average motel (exercise extreme caution and discretion)

Can't we all get along?

I used to have a haberdashery near where I lived. No one ever seemed to go in there to buy a hat, yet it was there for years and years.

Turned out to be a front for a brothel. Who knew?
