Tried doing another character study/doodle dump thing. This time all digital. Not super pleased with the result so will go back to sketching them on pen and paper first before coloring.

This one is of Silver Lining (Rainbow’s kid) and Nimbustratus (Zephyr Breeze and Lightning Dust’s kid)

EDIT, added some backstory:

Silver and Nimbostratus met at flight camp when they were children and got introduced to eachother by their parents. Or maybe introduced is the wrong word, Lightning Dust and Rainbow Dash old rivalry flared up when they met at the camp and both started bragging about who’s kid was the best flier and who would end up in the wonderbolts. The kids themselves took after what their parents said and automatically viewed eacother as competition. They constantly tried outshining eacother usually with Nimbus coming out on top.

During one exercise when they were flying alone Nimbus got his wing stuck in a tree. Silver heard him calling for help and flew down to get him loose. Nimbus got away with a light fracture and him owing Silver a favor.

When they got older Nimbus quickly worked his way into the wonderbolts, to his mother’s delight, while Silver struggled to make herself seen.

Picture 1: Nimbus is a very busy pony and Silver has had to chase him down to get him to fulfill that favor he owed her. Silver wanted Nimbus to teach her how to be a better flyer. Nimbus tried shrugging her off at first but she was persistent and eventually he gave in.

Picture 3: Silver and Nimbus training. Silver has a hard time keeping up and managing all the different maneuvers and recoveries and Nimbus is loosing patience.

Picture 4: The two after one of Silver’s many crash landings. Nimbus is reading an article about himself and telling Silver that maybe she should just stop trying considering how terrible she is at this whole flying thing.

Picture 5: Silver felt the need to prove herself after Nimbus’ remarks and goes off alone to show she isn’t a lost case. She flies into a storm and is knocked unconscious. Nimbus goes looking for her when she fails to show up and finds her just as she is falling out of the sky.
