True enough. All I know about why Spielberg made this movie is whatever I gleaned from the trailers, so I just assumed he was making a coming of age, boy and his pet type film.

Maybe, but what it did do, at least for me, is make me care about that young man and his horse’s friendship. I felt feels that were more than feels.

I was a little disappointed by War Horse. It seemed to skip from “The Guns of August” in 1914 all the way to the Second Battle of the Somme in late 1918. I felt it didn’t really show the insane pointlessness and waste and the brutality of the Western Front.
