Emerald tries to undue the book lock with the key, but he can’t get a good angle on it from the direction he is at now without disturbing the body.
 
Instead he pulls out his knife of subtlety.

Emerald carefully slices through the knotted cord holding the key. As careful as he is trying to be he can feel and see his hooves shaking.
 
Every second he spends near the dead body increases the terror he feels, and he finds it hard to not run and scream, but the cord finally loosens and drops the key. Emerald scoops it up and backs away quickly from the corpse.
