While the soldiers are distracted Emerald rushes up the staircase. He can see three rooms up here, and he ducks into the nearest one, slamming the door behind him and blocking it with a nearby chair.
 
The room is rather bare save for a window, a chest, a nightstand, and a bed. Above the bed are drawings that appear to be a tree, Giles, and a pony.
 
If Emerald had to guess, this is probably Praline’s room.
 
There is a shuttering of the doorknob and then three loud knocks that make the colt jump.
 
“Emerald! You get out of there this instant!” the soldier says sternly.
 
When this is met with silence there are a few more knocks, a couple more jiggles of the doorknob, and then he says, “If you aren’t out of there by the time we are ready to move I’m breaking down this door and taking you. You, stand here and wait for him to come out.”
 
There is then the sounds of hoof pounding down stairs.
